Saturday, January 18, 2025 10:00 am via Zoom. Brian Coleman, Watnong Chapter member: A Sculptor Makes Hypertufa Troughs. NARGS Watnong (NJ) chapter member Brian Coleman will explain how being an artist and a gardener led to a two-decade long passion for making hypertufa containers. Brian will share his hypertufa recipe, along with a variety of hypertufa molds and the resulting planters. He will also discuss his planting mix and strategies for successfully growing alpine plants in hypertufa troughs.

A life-long resident of the Pacific Northwest, Loree currently lives and gardens in Portland, Oregon. Her blog name refers to her love and use of spiky plants – Agave, cactus and more.

Mariel Tribby, Senior Horticulturist at the Missouri Botanical Garden: Rock Gardening in the Midwest at MBOT Explore a different plant palette with this introduction to the rock gardens at Missouri Botanical Garden. Mariel will cover her work during the past decade growing and, yes, also seeing many dryland plants die in hot and humid St. Louis. She will discuss the extensive renovation of the Heckman Rock Garden, as well as successful cultivation stories, from lowland Missouri natives to high-elevation plants.

Filling Orders for the NARGS SEED EXCHANGE – 2nd round--at the Home of Nina Stark-Slepnik, 7210 Chestnut Street, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. (Thank you Nina!). Watch for sign-up request. We need many volunteers to help fill seed orders for the second round of the NARGS seed exchange. Please put on your calendar. Details to come.

Our meetings usually occur on Saturday mornings, often at a local public garden, such as the US National Arboretum, US Botanic Gardens, or Brookside Gardens, and occasionally at a community center. Unless otherwise noted, doors open at 9:30 am for coffee with lecture at 10 am. (During Covid, Meetings will be on Zoom)
