Only a small minority of gardeners would describe themselves as rock gardeners, but it is, perhaps, the most compelling form of gardening. Certainly gardeners of all kinds seem to gravitate towards rock gardening either casually or obsessively as a kind of climax to their gardening lives. But they rarely lose interest in their earlier horticultural activities. Also relatively few rock gardeners are ardent seed growers, though most have dabbled in it. So my final message is that it is not my intention to convert you to rock gardening, nor to bully you into seed growing. These are both life-transforming interests for which no garden writer would wish to take responsibility.
